Equality Standards

What Equality Standards?

The Equality Standards recognise the importance of fair treatment and equal access to local government services and employment. The Standard has been developed to be used as a tool to assist local authorities to main stream gender, race, age, and most recently sexual orientation and religion or belief.

The Standards

  • provide a systematic approach for mainstreaming of the equalities strands
  • will assist local authorities to meet their obligations under the law
  • provide a framework for improving performance over a period of time
  • encourage the development of anti–discrimination practices
  • is a self-assessment tool that councils can use to measure their own progress

The Levels

Level 1: Commitment to a Comprehensive Equality Policy
Level 2
: Assessment and Consultation
Level 3: Setting equality objective and targets
Level 4
: Information systems and monitoring against targets
Level 5
: Achieving and reviewing outcomes

We can help you to:

  • Identify your organisations strength and weakness from an external stance and
  • advise, direct and solve any practical solution you may have in attaining any of the 5 levels.
