Equality and Diversity

Responsible organisations

All organisations are responsible for ensuring that they and their employees are familiar with equality and diversity issues. Whilst striving for excellence, it is important to create and maintain a working environment that promotes diversity and equal opportunity.

We can:

  • advise on the recent changes to anti-discrimination law
  • help you embed equality and diversity within your organisation
  • deliver practical, interactive equality training to all stakeholders within your organisation
  • help you learn how to carry out equality impact assessments

The duty to promote race equality

Public bodies have a duty to promote race equality within their area over and above the obligations stated above. The general duty has three elements, which require authorities to:

  • eliminate unlawful race discrimination
  • promote equality of opportunity between persons of different racial groups and
  • promote good relations between persons of different racial groups.
To achieve these objectives public authorities are likely to:
  • regularly review and revise their policies and procedures
  • remove actual and potential discriminatory practices
  • actively promote race equality
